Beach Roach: Isopoda Ligia Exotica Explained (Exotic ROACH?)

A type of Isopoda known as Ligia Exotica is sometimes referred to as Beach Roach due to its resemblance in shape and color with cockroaches.

These arthropods are generally found around the coastline of Texas. They are mainly spotted behind small rocks, near small pools. They are most active in the evening time.

Beach Roaches

Ligia Exotica consume decaying plants, algae, remains of dead fishes, and carrion. These organisms add to the ecosystem as decomposers and benefit the environment.

These beach roaches are harmless to humans and provide nutritious food for praying birds, including seagulls.

Are there cockroaches at the beach?

Normal cockroaches like American, German, or Oriental Cockroaches are commonly sighted in beach houses. This is because roaches love the humid, hot environment, and beach houses are an ideal spot with such luxuries.

They will commonly infest kitchen, bathrooms, storerooms, or damp areas around the house.
